Jaguar Football Players Compete at Major Applewhite Football Camp
Several members of the Jaguar Football team traveled to Mobile, Alabama to participate in the Major Applewhite Football Camps held at the University of South Alabama. The camp took place at the USA Jaguar Training Center, Practice Football Field, and Intramural Fields, drawing nearly 20 high school teams from across Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and Alabama.

"I was really excited with how we performed. With these events, I look more for the elements that make a great team. I thought I saw those at this event," says Coach Wes Summerford.
The camp provided opportunities for both skill players and linemen to showcase their abilities and continue their development this summer. Offensive and defensive linemen attended a position-specific camp led by South Alabama players, where they went through agility drills, individual technique work, and one-on-one competitions designed to sharpen their fundamentals and simulate in-game situations.

Meanwhile, skill position players participated in a highly competitive 7-on-7 tournament. The Jaguars demonstrated excellent teamwork and execution throughout pool play, posting strong performances on both sides of the ball. Quarterbacks connected with receivers on multiple completions, while the defense contributed with key interceptions. All skill players were able to rotate through game reps, allowing valuable experience for the entire group.
Although lightning delays interrupted portions of the schedule, players stayed focused and adapted well to the conditions. The tournament featured a single-elimination format beginning in the afternoon, guaranteeing each team a minimum of five games with the potential to play up to nine.

Recognizing the growth in his team, Summerford shared, "we saw some big plays in big situations. We definitely saw our guys kick into another level when we entered the playoff and came out to win the second round game by double digits.

Despite being early in the summer, the Jaguars already show significant growth and promise heading into the upcoming season. The camp provided an excellent environment for competition, learning, and bonding as the team continues its off-season preparation.

"One of the best things was them being a team throughout the day. We are not there yet, but I am seeing improvement towards where we need to get," Summerford concluded, hopeful for continued growth.
