Inside the Game: Coaches’ Takes & Player Lineup (updated after cancelation)

ree

Let's hear from some of our coaches – What to Watch For in the coming weeks. Note: References in this article to preparations for the Escambia game reflect the team’s overall approach to readiness and can be applied to future games. The strategies, training efforts, and focus highlighted are ongoing components of our program and represent how we prepare for opponents throughout the season.

Each week, we’ll hear from some our coaching staff reflecting on the previous game and get their take on how their position players performed. They’ll share what impressed them, where improvements are needed, and what fans should watch for in the upcoming matchup. It’s your inside look at the preparation, progress, and players that drive Jaguar football forward. Note: Coaches not featured in this edition will be featured in future weeks with updates.

Coach Lawrence: (RB) Running Backs, had a good night against Pace with an average of 5.5 yards per carry. This week we will work with different methods of pass blocking. I’m very excited about this group of players. (KR/PR): As a Returner, the player must first secure the football. The plan we have for each week will determine how aggressive they can be.

ree

Coach Dampson: (WR) I was really proud of our performance on Thursday night. Our

receivers were able to lean on each other and rotate throughout the game with each one meaningfully contributing to the game plan while racking up 110 yards receiving. Several times, they were able to make big gains helping to keep the drive moving and putting us in a good position to score. I’m excited about the future of this group and know they will be a huge component of whether we win or lose.

Coach Nemith & Coach Blackburn: (LB) Playing inside or outside linebacker in our defensive scheme is a big responsibility.  The linebacker position involves being a key defensive player, responsible for setting our unit’s alignment, responsible for stopping the run and

covering the pass when our opponent throws the football.  These players that carry the mantle in our scheme embrace this responsibility with courage, toughness and confidence.  This group played hard this past Thursday versus Pace with a stalwart mindset.  They learned that when they fit their gaps with correct fundamentals and technique, our defense is very good.  In turn, they learned that if we miss our fit or give up our playside shoulder our opponent is successful.  The linebacker unit is determined to continue perfecting their craft to prepare for this week’s game and build a stalwart defense for the season.

ree

Coach Summerford: (CB) Our guys executed the game plan well. We were really good in the few pass situations we saw. We have worked on fundamentals that will lead to better tackling. Our guys are pumped and ready to get 2025 kicked off the right way. (S) As leaders of the back half of the defense these guys communicated really well together and had the secondary coordinated as a unit. The safeties group playing together this week will be crucial for our success as we will  see a passing attack from Escambia.

Game Roster in jersey order: Note: Changes may be made after the posting of this roster and not able to be updated last minute. Effort will be made to have the accurate roster posted week to week.
