More Than the Game: New School Year with Character and Commitment

Football season is in full swing, but as West Florida Jaguars head back into the classroom, it's the perfect time to remember what this program is really about. Winning matters. Championships matter. But long after the scoreboard is turned off, what matters most is the kind of young men our players become: in the classroom, in the halls, and in the community.

Academics First

Being a Jaguar means being a student first. The discipline, focus, and work ethic our players bring to the practice field are the same qualities that will carry them through the classroom this year. Coaches and staff hold every player accountable to high academic standards, because the habits built now (showing up prepared, putting in the work, taking pride in the details) are the same habits that shape a successful life long after the pads come off.

To every player in our program: welcome back to school, and here's to a great start to the year. Bring the same effort to your classes that you bring to every practice and to every game.

Our Seniors

For our senior class, this year carries extra weight. This is their final season wearing the red and black, their last walk through the halls as Jaguars, and their last chance to leave a mark on this program before move on to the next chapter of their lives and later walk the halls as a Jaguar alumni.

The 2027 seniors will continue to lead, not just on the field, but with the example they set every single day. They've shown what it means to be young men of character: earning good grades, showing respect to teachers, staff, and peers, and carrying themselves in a way that makes this entire community proud.

Being a true athlete isn't only about being the MVP on the field or winning every game. It's about being an MVP and winning off the field, too: in the classroom, at home, and in how you treat the people around you. It's about leaving behind a legacy of character that outlasts any highlight or score.

To our seniors: thank you for everything you've given this program, and for showing the next generation of Jags what leadership looks like. Make this last year count: on the field, in the classroom, and in every room you walk into.
